Step one - Get in car.

Step two - Follow signs for I-78 West.

Step three - Pick pumpkins.

New York!? People talk about how NJ is such a diverse state with cities, beaches, mountains, farms, etc...and then think they have to go to an entirely different state to experience these things You could be in the heart of Somerset/Hunterdon County in 45 minutes from where you are.

This site provides names/links to some pumpkin patches in New Jersey. If you can get past the comic sans font, it could be useful. Beware that the closer to the densely populated metro you are, the more crowded/loud/annoying the experience will be. If you truly want a rural experience, you'll have to travel more than an hour from Jersey City.

There are plenty of farms in Hunterdon that an hour or just under an hour away that don't get too crowded. Melick's is one.

30 minutes is a very short drive. How much closer do you think you are going to get to "rural atmosphere" from HUDSON COUNTY?????

I'm sure you can find a secluded spot in the meadowlands where you can lie down in the mud and pretend you don't hear any traffic.
