You'll never see an argument at self-service about the amount of gas that was requested to be pumped("I said $30"--"No, you said $40"), or the type of fuel requested("I said regular"----"No, you said super").
It happened once to my son. He asked for $20, cash, regular. The attendant filled his tank. He did not have that much money. Son paid about $35 of the (approximately) $50 fee. The manager of the station apologized for the inconvenience and told him to, please, not come back to the station to pay the difference the following week - that it would muck up his bookkeeping.
So some people don't want to pump their gas. Some people would like to (and some even do). Why not have both? There are plenty of gas stations in other states that have both self serve and full serve. Seems like that would make everyone happy. (Except of course those that just like to complain and would never be happy).

Obviously, because then they would raise the price for full service like they have in other states. Who wants that?
Perhaps. It wouldn't cost them any more than it does today. Maybe they just lower the price of self serve.
I don't think it would work that way. Now, if they required full serve, but let you pump your own if you wish, I would have no problem with that. When I ride my motorcycle, they never try to pump for me. They always hand me the nozzle to do it myself.

I'm not sure how that is really different from what I said. Allow people to pump their own gas if they want.
