Default Tell me about Rahway, NJ

My daughter, who will be graduating from college next spring will soon be interviewing for a job that's located in Rahway, NJ. I know nothing about the city or the surrounding area and was wondering if anyone familiar with the area can tell me about it. As a parent I was mostly concerned about how safe an area it is.

the area is moderately safe, the 1/9 corrider is very transient and that is where the possibilty of having any problems are. The town is lower middle class with some pockets of low income types, hanging around the train station area isn't a good idea. All in all as long as she is moderately careful she shouldn't have any problems

Rahway is a dump.

Very industrial area.

It also includes the very breathtaking Rahway Prison aka East Jersey State Prison.

Rahway , Linden, Elizabeth, Newark all dumps and dangerous areas.

It depends on what part of Rahway her job would be. There are parts of Rahway I wouldn't walk around (being female) at night alone but then there are other parts that are fine. As with most places she should practice good safety habits.

if she is going to work in rahway, it's probably Merck.. i don't know any other major company in the town.. anyways, she can work there and easily live in another town.. but overall Rahway is not a bad town..

Sorry but taking it very personally that someone would consider Rahway a "dump". It is predominately a middle class town (which most of US currently is). I grew up in Rahway and it is a safe town. Every town that I know of has a section that it is not the greatest. It is up and coming with many developments underway to attract NYC commuters who want more space yet commutable to the big apple. Rahway is very easy commute to NYC with a direct line (40 minutes into midtown).

Merck attracts employees by offering free shuttle service to the train station and day care on premises. It is not a Westfield nor Short Hills but she will not get mugged going to work. High end rentals near train station start somewhere in the 1500 for a one bedroom. New condos are being built and new downtown plans are on the horizon with many familiar shops (i.e. GAP). Having a feature article about your hometown is not bad when it runs in the New York Times.

My church is by the train station (and where they're building what looks like a residential tower, quite nice IMO). The area features tree-lined streets and nice homes.

How much industrial area is in Rahway ?
It is obvious you know nothing about Rahway

And not much about Woobbridge since that is where the prison is

Please Stick to what you know
