The Worst Job Markets in the U.S. - Yahoo Finance

Thoughts? I'm not buying the description as to why it is one of the worst job markets. I wouldn't blame Sandy and lacking tourism industry as much as I'd blame restrictive business regulations and union corruption.

The article specified that NJ was included by reason of Atlantic City, Camden and Bridgeton. None are bastions of regulatory overreach or union activism by any stretch of the imagination. Atlantic City has lost its east coast monopoly on casino gambling. Camden is a post apocalyptic urban nightmare that spiraled down with the loss of RCA and white flight, similar to Detroit. Bridgeton is typical of failed rust belt cities like Scranton that depended on an industry that ultimately lost relevance. The article fails to break out seperate statistics for Northern NJ, which while not great, would be much better than those cities the article targets.

It is one specific area in the southernmost portion of the state. There is not much down there, so I am not surprised.

Since you didn't understand that the article was talking about a section of NJ, can we do the same and apply that to all of your adopted California since it's on the list too?

I am sad to admit I had to google Bridgeton to find out where it is.

On edit...it actually looks like decent town from Google Street view.

I'm not going to waste my time explaining the article referred to sections of each state.

I'm in IT. I lost my job at the end of July. Within an hour of posting my resume online I satrted recieving calls every hour about jobs... all from NY, CT and PA, eventually resulting in me taking a job in NYC. I went to over a dozen interviews. Not one of them, not one call, not one inquiry from NJ-based company. I would take less money if I can have a shorter commute. I still get calls now. Not one from NJ.

I'm surprised this is the case. Doesn't NJ house large companies like big pharma, Dow Jones, Bloomberg (Skillman), Verizon (Basking Ridge), Avaya, Pru and Metlife, Hess etc.? Are there not enough jobs to accomodate many qualified NJers.

Thoughts are Jersey was #5 Cali was #2. Looks like living in Camden beats living in California.

Yes, let's give Panasonic another $100M subsidy to move 10 miles like we did a few yrs ago. Those are some fine "business regulations" that Republicans love.

If you're a large business with a strong balance sheet, you do not deserve a penny of my money. That applies to sports teams as well.
