I am getting winter tires this time, better be safe than sorry. Auto insurance here is very expensive, so any accident will dent your deductible also.

Very true (click you postive...), Honda or Toyota seems to have that problem when making turns on snow days ... When I came from CA, that winter my Toyota hit the curb...

Other than tires and many good tips others mention. I found ABS very useful since most people new to snow or new to an strange place with snow may too nurvous to hit the break too hard, but, in snow, even the wheels are stopping spinning, the car may keep moving forward, especially, my experience was downward.
So, the ABS seemed to save me since at the end of the downhill road was a T intersection, the car had to stop. After some vibration of the car, it finally stopped completely in time.

abs does nothing for you when skidding on ice, you need traction for abs to work, no traction no stop.

I have no objection that you get snow tires, but I came to NJ since 1984 from CA, I never got one...
I also agree that you need traction for ABS to work, and it worked for me several times each winter...

With a Jeep all you need is a good set of all seasons. I live in Sussex Cnty and get around everywhere with them on my 4x4 pickup. Just use extra care, common sense and you'll do fine. It's actually quite fun IMO.

I have a Grand Cherokee (98) with all season tires; very rarely use 4WD. You'll learn to drive by the second storm. IMO storms are getting less frequent as the climate changes.

I have never had the need to use snow tires....I have all season tires on both my car and truck and never had any slippery problems yet to go for snow tires. However if you think its safe or it might help you then I'd say go for it..!!!!

If you were coming Dec-March I'd say get the snow tires. My husband and I both agree snows are much better than all-wheel. We've had both and good snows, we think, give more traction. But in Nov. there is hardly any snow - it can happen - but generally not the type you need snows for.
