Parking in Hoboken is expensive and a nightmare, I have never tried in Jersey City. I was wondering however, is it cheaper and more convenient to park in Harrison, by the Red Bull Stadium, and take the PATH there? Thanks.
Yes, there's an expensive but convenient garage in Harrison, plus cheaper but less convenient surface lots. There are also a few theoretically-available 12 hour on-street spots, but I've never actually snagged one.
The garage in Harrison next to the PATH station charges $11.00 for 12 hours of parking, last time I parked there (within the last couple of months).
I pay $195 a month for general parking in that garage. If you are willing to walk a few blocks, there's uncovered parking lots for about a $100 a month
Aaaah back in the "good ole days" late 70's early 80's before the JC waterfront was built up and it was 6 foot tall weeds we used to pay "absolutely nuffin". That all changed of course. I know you can park in the garage at Journal Square which has at least 2 levels if it isn't filled up. that one is in or adjacent to the JSQ station. Sometimes later at night I have parked in the blocks west of the Newport Mall and walked through the mall garage, through the mall and to the Path Newport/Pavonia station.
Don't think of parking in the strip malls where they time you for 2 hours while shopping. They WILL steal away your car and charge you hundreds to give it back.
This is just for occasional trips. I don't mind walking, so perhaps the uncovered lots for only $8 in Harrison are a good choice. Thanks everyone, if you have more suggestions, keep them coming.
I think it depends on time of day to some extent, as in I used to park on streets in Newark a block or 2 SE of Penn Station during the evening for free. Not sure what the day situation is like there. Probably either already parked in or you have to pay, etc.
