I currently live in Edison,NJ and work for a Tech company in a sales job. After months of futile search for a house, I have started thinking about moving to Dallas.
Pros:
- 4 BR house in a good school district in NJ costs not less than 500K. Equivalent houses in flower mound, Plano, Grapevine cost 300-350K. So I assume just on EMI and state taxes, i can save close to 10-15K every year.
- My daughter is in 5th grade and is a gifted student.Initially I was hesitant to move out of NJ for this reason. with little research I realize school districts like Plano provide equally nurturing environment
- For someone who moved from India, Dallas weather feels more like home
But there is one big concern
- My current job allows me to be based out of anywhere in US. But if I need to switch, i am not sure if my next job will allow to be based out of Dallas. I know of people who moved back from Dallas to NJ citing the Tech jobs scene in Dallas is no where as vibrant as North east.
Is this a valid concern? Am I valid in my observations on the Pros?
Inputs from people who have lived in NJ as well as Dallas will be of immense help
