Lots of hidden gems tucked away in the massive amount of preserved land up there. Between High Point, Stokes, Worthington, the DWGNRA, and the two Wildlife Management Area properties there is nearly 80,000 acres of contiguous wild lands. I've spent entire days up there hiking/four wheeling, etc...rarely seeing another person, which is impressive for New Jersey.

I agree completely; that area doesn't even feel like New Jersey. I've only hiked up that way once or twice, but I definitely would go again.
There's lots of room in Southern NJ. I know Badfish has been there. He's posted about it here.
I've driven and hiked all over Southern NJ, and most days, I didn't run into anyone. No one...nothing, zilch.
My mother used to complain, cry, and tell me that I'd be raped and killed in the forest. I had to remind her that I couldn't be raped or killed by anyone if I hadn't run into anyone. It's pretty quiet down there off season and week days.
