You've done quite well for yourself.
You don't have to believe me, but why go out of your way to attack my statements? All I did was ask for advice. Where did you even infer that the court is unfair? Unless my speedometer was way off and the trucks and cars were traveling 90+mph, then I'm going to say the officer made a mistake. I wasn't trying to get anybody's sympathy but I was simply trying to give a little background info about me and my family so people could give me some whole-hearted advice.

And the shady insurer is straight out of my father'a mouth, we've been insured through a Korean insurance company and they failed to deliver properly both times my mom hit a deer and when a tree fell on the car, hence my father wanting to switch.

And FYI , I'll be paying for the lawyer and the ticket myself, so I can bad-mouth him all I want if I wanted to. Don't assume things because I come off as a dependent, irresponsible young man for one speeding ticket.

But thanks for your help.

Yea, I told my parents right away and I know this sob story won't work anywhere.
I was just so damn frustrated with the whole situation, since it is my first time. I wish I could fight it myself since I know my car was in fact slower than 80mph. But it's my story vs the officer's and there is no way I'm going to win. It's just not worth traveling 7-8 hours just for a quick traffic court ruling.

I've discussed it with my parents and we thought it was best to hire someone to represent me, they didn't want me taking a couple of days from work and school to fight this ticket with no guaranteed outcome. My parents are insured through some shady, small insurance company and thought of moving to other insurance soon so it would show up on the system thus raising the insurance premium.
Lesson learned, a costly one at that, I guess. Now I know to REALLY keep the speed limit and think 75 should be okay.
Don't waste your time with 'fighting' anything, especially traffic. It is well oiled machine throughout US and it is a revenue stream. Just like parking tickets. I want to impart few things I learned about similar experience as my last post on the thread and clarification on what you should expect.

- Your lawyer actually isn't going to fight anything. He or she will go for plea bargain on summon date. I guarantee that unless you are really fired up and want to take the gov't to court to prove you didn't speed when you can much more easily get plea bargain for 3 points which you can get rid of via defensive driving or possibly just reduced to parking violation so you have no points.

- Never have the attitude of I'm going to fight this ticket if you show up on summon date yourself. Judge/prosecutor/police officer can smell that from mile away and will not do you any favor and you just threw away easy compromise for all which is plea bargain.

- Only time you do fight moving violation tickets is if you are going to get totally screwed because you got pulled over for serious problems like you are going to lose your license because you have too many points already on your license, driving insanely fast way over the speed limit, or even more serious issues like DUI, DWI. You'll definitely need fight those.

- Don't get so agitated for the injustice you probably are feeling. Its not personal, it is just business and you got unlucky. Cops have quotas to fill and you happened to be driving at the wrong spot at close enough speed to get tagged. So move on and focus on more important things. Like your education or little stuff like this is going to distract you from what you should be focusing on.

Good luck.

That's right! Let's just say that I'm professionally familiar with thousands of traffic tickets, so I bring that experience to the table. compared with your solo tale of innocence.

I'm going to say that he didn't. No reason for him to pull over the slowest car.

Seeing that you got the ticket, that's what you should do.

Again, thanks for everything. I'll keep these things in mind. The next time I get a ticket.

No, but I do have a low tolerance for BS, and a sarcastic way of responding.

Not familiar enough with NY luckily to know if they offer any deals.
Especially since us Jersey people are visiting that crappy rust belt and spending money in NY State! They should be paying us to come to UPstate!

Got a ticket in upstate NY once in Rockland county. Cop flat out told me that tickets are a source of revenue for their small town so I am better off paying it. Took his advice and just paid the fine.

Yes as far as we all know, max is 2 points transferred. in the "days of Olde" before much computerisms a lot of times points would never make it back to NJ.

And yes we should be left alone by principle of diplomatic immunity, being from the USA and NJ and all
