Basically the the thermostat is a temperature controlled on off switch. So if you can figure out which pair of wires going back to the furnace it clicks together, that would make the heat start up without the thermostat working. Often there is a diagram, often inside the low voltage connection box.

For the cost of a hotel room, you can get a couple space heaters and be comfortable in your home for one night.

Other question: is it oil heat or gas heat? Im thinking there could be a transformer that might have opened. Easy to check with a volunteer if so.

for people like tony who would call in a gas leak [no heat ] just to jump to the front of the line, as an old gas man I would look for your gas leak [waste my time ] and not find any ,then you would say I have no heat?? to that I would say call us back for your no heat, because I have a gas leak to go to. people always call in a gas leak when its a no heat, oh and by the way if I got your no heat back............yours would be the last job of the day.

I really doubt that PSE&G offers their Worry-Free service contracts on oil-fired furnaces.

You're likely one of hundreds if not thousands of customers with a no heat situation. The company will triage and the gas leak ones will get priority. The rest will go in order of receipt of call.

Check your master switch on the furnace along with the thermostat issue. Even check the breaker box for a thrown breaker.

Mine is a gas fired furnace FYI.

Thankfully, its a free weekend for my aunt in south jersey and she is willing to allow us to reside in her home (How Kind ). So, my dad said he canceled the hotel booking and told us to spend tonight and tomorrow morning there. Coming back home late tomorrow morning before the PSEG guy reaches. I just reached her house with my grandpa a couple minutes ago.
