so im looking to hire a reliable babysitter and want to ask here how everyone found their babysitter as i don't seem to have a lot of luck in keeping a RELIABLE babysitter.

i have a 2.5 year old toddler and a month old infant, and there are times where i've to take my toddler to his gym and swimming class (that one requires me getting in pool with him) and need to leave my baby at home. This is my way to keeping the bond/relationship with my older son strong and giving him his 1:1 attention.

i started out with care.com but often times, i would begin correspondence and met 3 different potential sitters in public but often times, once i want to hire on a specific day/time, they fall off the face of earth!?

it's getting very annoying so im thinking i can't be the only mom with this issue of needing a babysitter??

let me know how/where you found your sitter and i live near Bridgewater for reference.

sittercity and care.com is where we got ours. You have to pay a subscription fee but you'll get a ton of responses and then you interview and keep in touch with who you like.

I use my mother in law & mother. I am going to need a non-relative for my brother's wedding so my wife is planning on asking a friend of her's who she uses.

For us, nothing beats recommendations from neighbors and friends.

there is also a government service that connects women who spent some time in prison for petty crimes and helps them find work. that's a good resource if you want to save a few bucks and get a tax deduction.

I doubt I would hire someone who has been to prison to babysit my infant or toddler, even for a petty crime. For cleaning, painting, handyman or yardwork, sure, but to leave my kids alone with her - No!

I had difficulties with Care.com as well. We use our daycare workers to baby sit. Also neighbors and friends in the area a PPs have said.

We had a great experience with both Care.com and Sittercity. we got very qualified, good kids from good families in the neighborhood and that is exactly what we were looking for. That said we were only looking for babysitters in the 17-23 year old range. We weren't looking for older/professional daycare providers, I'm not sure I'd use an online resource for that.
