February 2010 made the 2009-2010 winter season pretty significant. I recall us getting 12-13 inches in a storm that lasted all day February 10th into the 11th and another 13-14 inches in a storm that lasted February 25th into the 26th. It was the first time NYC schools closed twice in a month for snow (February 10th & 26th). For some reason the 09-10 winter season gets overlooked.

2011 was pretty bad as well as op stated. Not a lot of snow at once (except the Dec 26th storm). It was just one storm on top if another.

Also the 2008-2009 winter season was bad for people by the Jersey shore and in the southern part of the state I believe.

In 2003 we had the big Presidents Day storm with close to 2 feet of snow. Also in 2006 I believe we had a significant winter storm on Lincoln's Birthday.

The bad one was 95-96, not 96-97. My friend had her baby during one of the storms in 1/96. We had 2 * 2+' within a week or two. There was snow in parking lots until May.

Apparently 78 was a biggie but I don't remember it.

2000/2001 was another big one.

1994 was pretty bad, starting in January. 16 snowstorms.

Fortunately Global Warming has made this a somewhat mild winter in NJ. I keep wondering how much worse it would be if it weren't for GW.

The 2009-2010 I did my student teaching. Interesting story. I didn't have a car at the time. Most of the kids get picked up. All of the regular teacher decided to up and leave before it got bad. I was sitting in the gym with about 20 kids, three other student teachers, and three subs. Really made me feel important. The best is I asked everyone remaining for a ride home and no one offered. I had to wait an hour in a blizzard for a bus. That was like a Wednesday. School got closed the next two days.

I was very young, but I remember 93-94 being bad and my birthday party being canceled.

I wanted to add in 2010 like around Valentine's Day, Newark was shut down.

This year ranks up there. Can't remember the last time we saw the grass.

This year is bad but not as bad as I remembered a few years back when every weekend there was a blizzard for 2 months straight.

I'm pretty sure 2010-2011 was one of the worst. As a poster said, it wasn't the amount snow produced, more of the fact that we had a snowstorm every week. It also stayed cold until mid-April, and then warmed up to be one of the hottest summers on record.

The following year we had a very mild winter, but I remember a particularly cooler and rainy spring leading into summer.
