I wanted to move out on NYC because its so expensive and I want a better quality of life. The places I did look in other states are nice but it is really far from most of my family in ny. Are there any parts of nj that are very safe with good schools and affordable. I know I'm asking a lot but maybe to buy a home for 300k or less or rent a three bedroom under 1500. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
Are you beholden to north jersey/new york area? If not, south jersey is generally more affordable. Places like bordentown or Collingswood offer good regional transport connectivity, safety, and affordability. In North Jersey Sussex or Warren counties are pretty cheap.

You say that you don't want to be far from family in NY. In a later post you said that you're interested in southern Jersey.
Southern Jersey is far from NY. Are you making a daily commute to the City?

Frankly speaking, I don't think you can find a place in NJ that could be both very safe with good schools AND affordable, especially when you want to be closer to your family.
Of course, everyone has its own definition of safety, good school, affordablity and closeness to NYC.

As someone else already pointed out, you have to define what is "affordable" to YOU.
I don't know where you could possibly rent a three bedroom apartment for under 1500--or under 2000, for that matter, but maybe in South Jersey it is possible. I'm not as familiar with those areas. It's certainly not realistic in most parts of NJ.
Why not take the few minutes it takes to answer the questions in the sticky, and then people will have more information and can help you better.
I do not plan to work in NYC. I like southern jersey because I can drive home to see my family every weekend or during an emergency. It is close compare to where I was looking in the south.

OK, then maybe you should post your questions in the South Jersey/Suburbs of Philadelphia sub-forum. You might get better information from people on there. Good luck.
Southern NJ over here. The wildcard here would be where is your job at..or do you work from home all of the time and this isn't an issue??
If you're planning weekend trips to NYC, I'd consider Burlington County NJ as it is just South of Princeton/Trenton areas and therefore puts you a bit closer to the Big Apple than towns further South in NJ.
Towns like Mount Laurel, NJ are nice (I lived there for about 7 years) and you can find a decent older home or rental property for what you're looking at paying.
I would avoid towns like Burlington and Willingboro, NJ ...Just not the best of what South Jersey has to offer at all.
