Default Need Good Sushi!

I just moved here in October, and have a friend coming to visit this weekend. One of our girl's night traditions is sushi, and I need a really good sushi place that I can share when she comes. We'll be near Paramus so any of the towns within about 10 or so miles of there. I'm looking for moderately priced sushi, not anything obscenely expensive.

Sorry, but it is a little pricy and far. Minado is about 30 mi from Paramus, but it has great sushi!

Kiku on Route 17S is fine. If you want to go for a ride, Mr. Sushi in Lincoln Park has an all you can eat special for $25/head. And GREAT STUFF. BYOB.

Definitely try TOMO in Ramsey. It's attached to a the Howard Johnsons on Route 17 South. The ambience isn't outstanding, but the Sushi is. I have a friend who really knows his way around the great restaurants of Manhattan, who also agrees that this place is a hidden gem.
Hope this helps.

Well, you can be in midtown Manhattan from Paramus in like 15 minutes.
However, if you want to stay in NJ, go north to Allendale. Just of Rt. 17 is a place called Masa Grill & Sushi. Sushi is excellent, very fresh & high quality. Grill maybe not quite excellent, but good. Tempura Ice Cream for desert, and you can't find that every day.

Yeah, being a very recent NJ transplant I'm not familiar with anything around here, still learning! We'll be in Manhattan for a couple of days, too, so if you have further recommendations, please let me know. No need for the grill, just the sushi. (And the martinis, hey, it's girl's night!...)

I have difficulty with the concept of a sushi buffet. As a rule, I like my fish, especially when I'm going to be eating it raw, to be fresh & pristine. I like watching the sushi master cut my slice off the larger piece, which he knows is being perfectly kept.

I was at the grocery store the other day and they had sushi rolls sitting in one of those sample trays at room temperature. Ew.
