I'm traveling to Elizabeth, NJ and I'm staying at the Extended Stay of America. I was trying to find out how to take the train to time square.

The train goes to Penn Station in NYC which is about 32nd to 34th streets. Times Square is around 42nd St so you can take a subway or just walk up about 8 blocks in NYC. The train schedules are all on njtransit.com website.

the elizabeth train station is not near your hotel, and you are better off taking the bus. in fact, nj transit bus 111 goes to port authority bus terminal in new york, which is 5 min walk from times square. the bus stops outside the marriot near the hotel. the fare is 6.50 each way : http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0111.pdf is the schedule.
