Greenville, NJ 07305 - Jersey City, NJ (Bayonne, Orange: apartments, condo, work)

My wife just saw a 2BD/1Bath condo in greenville section of Jersey city. Bus to NYC close by and JSQ at doorstep. listing price is $130K. we dont know the assoc fees or taxes yet but how is this area/neiborhood? We have 1 yr old son, do you think in this area, wife and I could take our son out for walk after coming back from work? I am trying to find if this area is family friendly.

Also how does the price look when compared with other properties in that area. Everything is negotiable and we may be able to get his down to around $115k-$120k...do you think the price is in line with the area?

Please share your thoughts as to what parts of JC are good and what parts to avoid? thanks.

Most of Greenville is shot..you have small pockets of not so bad areas but don't venture to far....the side streets from Kennedy Blvd all the way down to Garfield Ave..bad bad
I think they just had some kind of gang thing in Audubon park up there on the Blvd that spilled over into west Orange
Sad was a nice area at one time

Most of JC is not what I would call family friendly but there are some walkable areas that are decent. You need to spend some time there and check it out yourself.

If anyone is reading this who is thinking of moving there for real- the high rent districts are considered the most desirable and safest and there are a few other areas that are more moderate in price that you might check out but you have to check it for yourself.

07306 is still Jersey City...sounds like the Marion Section.
Again, I would stay away.

The Greenville Jersey City area has a history of being rough, but the housing boom has created many changes in Greenville. There are some pockets of nice apartmants on certain streets and the appearance of the Light Rail station has caused the immediate area to blossom. I began renovating apartments in the area 3 years ago when it was a bit scary to walk around and I can say that things have greatly changed.

That address is not up and coming, I worked by that address for 25 years. If up and coming to you is the bloods and crips getting it on, then its up and coming. Are you for real. There are a strip of 6 apartment buildings attached to each other that are drug infested right there. I would say it's a tad more than a bit scary. How about life threatening because of the shootings and muggings taken place. Please whoever reads this is one of the worst blocks in JC. If it was so good it would have been rented already. I would check the dictionary and look up blossum again sir.

I think that this is a good description of the Greenville section. I lived nearby (in Bayonne), and my son lived in Greenville (Woodlawn Avenue) until maybe 2 years ago. Most of Greenville is pretty bad, but there are occasional small pockets of niceness. Problem is, they are surrounded by bad stuff.
