My Son
He has been arrested and put in jail the bail was 250k ok after the court trial it was reduced to 100k
Public defender ves DA in court I think the PD was doing a good job. But now with the Da not in total agreement with PD I have made bail for my son. Now we have a new trail set for the 26th of March. My X wife wants to hire a Lawyer instead of using the PD. This is a very high cost of over 10k to start I know it will go up from that. I have not agreed with my X wife to hire outside services as I think the PD was doing a good job. This is a felony case but not a real big deal on the charges. I think they should just drop the charges due to the lack of real information that the DA did not have to show in court. Ok this is the charges as listed.
2 counts to Lewd Act 1 count of Intent to commit sexual defense. No photos No video he said she said crap and the girl that was involved under age denies all charges that they our charging my son with. They do have the girls computer with all the chat back and forth on Facebook. As the girl was stating that she was over 18 years of age. Charges 288.01 and 288.03 I just do not have the money to hire a lawyer and the PD is doing a good job. Best thoughts??

If you don't have the money to pay a private attorney, then I don't understand why you are asking your question.
Does your ex-wife have the money to pay a private attorney?
If neither of you have the funds, then--like it or not--you will have to settle for the Public Defender, who may or may not be the best one to defend your son.
Do you want an attorney who is working for the same State the prosecutor is working for (only with a lower budget), or would you rather have an attorney actually working for your son?
you get what you pay for. If you can swing it hire an attorney. Could mean the difference between jail time or no jail time. Your son doesn't want a felony on his record as it will hurt him for a long time. So if you can afford it, get one. But if you cant then you will have to take your chances.

Yes my x has the money but she wanted me to pay 1/2 and I just do not have it. I did make the bail..

How about your son puts up the other half? It looks like your ex-wife has taken care of half. You have taken care of bail. Your son should pitch in.
Well that would be very good but he works part time for the state and makes very little money. Makes 1280 pr mo and we x and I help him to pay the bills he has now. His rent for a apartment is 1150 pr mo.
He is trying to get on full time or take a 2nd job but for the time as of now no good for the money ouch This is a bad deal for all I am sure of that.

A cheap private attorney is not going to be any better than a PD, really. Most cheap private attorneys are total hacks, while most PDs are quality attorneys even if they're woefully overworked/overstretched.
