I've never been to southern NJ malls. I've been to a few in northern NJ. I have a friend who I recently went shopping with. She told me in other state their shopping malls have daycares (which seem like a good idea). Why don't we do that here? I'm guessing it's something to do with zoning/licensing...

I feel like back in the mid-late 1990s there were some but have gone away. In the Middlesex Mall there was a Discovery Zone. Not exactly a full on day care but definitely a parental supervision type zone designed for the kids.

Growing up in Northern NJ, Bridgewater, Short Hills, and Menlo Park never had day care centers. Although in the last few years there have been lounges invited for frequent mall goers and select CC holders. Kids can roam around the area while parents relax.

I can't imagine ever leaving my kids at a mall daycare...that just sounds shady.

Some Shop Rites have a toddler room where you can drop off the brats and then go shop.

If my kid needed daycare the last place I would use would be a mall.

Not Day Care.

Its like a toddler gym/playroom (Think https://www.mygym.com ) where you sign a disclosure and you can leave the baby for a short mall trip. Ikea has them. Some gyms like LA Fitness has them. I saw one in a Wegmans once. Read their licensing/training and if they have background checks, then evaluate if you fell safe leaving the4 yo for 90 minutes.

i've never seen a mall daycare. i'm guessing they confused the lounges for CC holders (like the amex lounge that pops up at short hills during the holidays) as a daycare. who the heck would leave their kids at a mall daycare?

Just think for a second about (i) the majority of the clientele that frequents a mall like the Garden State Plaza and (ii) the likely hiring practices of such a mall day care. No way would I want to leave my kid at a day care there.

I'm pretty sure you can't be hired to work with children (or volunteer) if you haven't been background checked. I think the person who hires you can go to jail for that, even if you don't have any type of criminal/abuse past.
