I was wondering about diversity in Livingston... I know there is a significant Asian population, but I was wondering specifically if the Asian population is primarily 1st or 2nd generation? I am Asian, but was born and raised in Connecticut and just speak English...so I wanted to know if there were other Asians in the town who were born in America. From driving around and going into the stores it seems like most of the Asians were born in Asia and speak Chinese more than English.
I hope I didn't offend anyone by asking this, any info would be helpful.

Thanks!
The large Asian population in Livingston is a fairly recent occurrence. When I grew up there in the 70s and 80s, I could count the amount of Asians in my class on 1 hand. The schools had a very good reputation so I think that is what brought such a large influx of Asians to town. The same is happening next door in Millburn. I can't give you actual statistics, but it does seem that many of the Asian parents speak with an accent. Obviously, the children do not.
I'm just curious why the distinction is important to you?
We are a young Asian family living in a town next to Livingston with only 4% Asian population, we do still feel like foreigners at times even though we came to US at a young age.
That said, we would probably bought a house in Livingston if we did enough research.
Livingston does have a lot of Chinese/Taiwanese Asians. I'm a ABC born in NYC, grew up in Central NJ and married and a caucasian You will find quite a few Chinese from the mainland, many with grandparents living in the same house caring for the children while the parents are at work. And just like the previous poster who jokingly mentioned not wanting to hang out with FOBs, well for the most part they hang out with each other. I assure you that you can find both 1st and 2nd generation in Livingston. You will also find quite a few mixed asian & caucasian families in town, I was surprised myself at how many there were.
lol its ok OP, I'm Asian and I wouldn't hang out with fobs either
What's a "fob"?
