Hi everyone! if any one could please give me their opinions or experience with Essex county hospitals with delivering baby on high risk floor. I just moved back to new jersey from Florida and i am 14 weeks. I also am in the process or switching over my medicaid from Florida to new jersey which i have yet to do. I would love to go to saint Joseph's in Paterson, however they are Passaic county and i was told that if i have Essex county medicaid that it will not cover a Passaic county hospital. If any one has facts about this as well i will take any information possible. I am very lost in this process.

I'm not sure about high risk specifically, but I read that St. Barnabas in Livingston delivers the most babies of any hospital in the state. I would think that should be a good first option to look into.

Barnabas is great, as is any other hospital with a Level III Neonatal care facility. If you are high risk due to some expected complications with the baby(heart problems, genetic disorders, etc) and want the absolute best in our area I'd try and get into New York Presbyterian.

You can switch your Medicaid at 18 Rector Street in Newark. I think you would be able to use your Medicaid anywhere in NJ. You have to choose one of four or five HMOs, just be careful that your ob gyn and hospital accepts the specific HMO.

Umdnj is a university hospital with a lot of specialists. They also have a lot of Medicaid patients.

Barnabas is a fantastic hospital. We delivered 3 babies there. the nurses are fantastic. We went to the NICU with our son when he was 2 months old, again - fantastic experience. Our friend just had a baby there who had some complications with delivery, their daughter spent a week in NICU and they seemed very happy with everything. I would highly recommend Barnabas. Also, the rooms are nice, and the food isn't bad. I believe it's also a non-profit hospital.

Yes, it is a non profit. Most of the large medical centers are. Having done my internship at Barnabas, and having worked there for several years after my training, I will say that you will not find a better hospital for a high risk pregnancy. There are others that are as good (not in Essex), but not better.

The hospital accepts medicaid, as do most, but you may find it difficult to find an OB/GYN that practices there who accepts medicaid. When I was there, most didn't, but that was a long time ago so I don't know if that has changed over the years. If you can find one, as I said, that is the place to go in Essex County.
