Thanks for all the ideas. I saw something I liked on one web site you people gave me. Do you think its ok to have one room traditional and another room different? I also am going to make all my furniture rounds next week. So I will hit up these stores all are pretty close and then decide. Thanks again, I could not think of anythings so now I got some good ideas.
Bob's Discount Furniture seems to have really good prices. Not sure about the quality though. We bought our living set from Macy's furniture, the leather couches were quality but the coffee table and end tables are crap and got scratched up almost immediately.
I like some things at Ikea for decorating, but most of it is put together crap. Furniture stores seem to have going out of business sales, then change names, have another going to out of business sale, it never seems to stop. This furniture on Route 4 in River Edge seems to have been at least 5 different name changes in the past 2 years.
suburban furniture on Rt 10 in ledgewood/roxbury/succasunna (can't ever tell where one ends and the other begins, lol) is worth a stop.
levitz is going out of biz, maybe you can snag something cheap, although i've never been a big fan.
Oh I didn't know that. Are they all going out of biz? I don't love their stuff but I need some extra furniture for one of my kid's rooms (read: stuff that will be trashed over the next few years).
I have never been a fan of retail furniture stores. Their markup is ridiculous, and many times their quality is just as bad. When my wife and I married, back in '94, we found a direct importer just off of Fifth Ave in the City. They would go out and get your furniture from N Carolina and deliver it to your home.
Now that we live in Ocean County we have found someone in Waretown that does the same thing. He has a small furniture store on route 9, and he has catalogs and catalogs of furniture. Pick something out, and he goes down to NC and delivers it to your home.

I agree about the markup. We normally see what we want at Bograd's and then order form NC. The savings are amazing we saw a desk and chair at Macy's furniture. It was $1,000 for the desk and chair delivered. Got it from NC for $770 delivered. A coffee table at Bograd's was $1,400 and we got it for $820. The only issue can be the lead time which can be 12 weeks or more.

too funny. in 94 we actually flew to NC with 2 of our friends to specifically buy furniture for both our houses. the markup is absolutely insane, I agree - the plane tickets were more than paid for by the savings we got. as an added bonus, we didn't have to pay sales tax! we went to furnitureland south, which i understand you're allowed to purchase from them over the phone once you've bought before.

yup, all stores. don't know why though! "you'll love it at levitz!", lol

Too funny - we buy from Furniturelandsouth almost everytime we buy furniture. And yep you can order over the phone. We also use Flemington Dept Store who has amazing prices on furniture and rugs. Just call em and give them the item number of the stuff you want.
You could check Bassett or Ethan Allen. I bought mine in NYC (North Carolina Showroom) and got a great deal.
