OMG! I am definitely the "mommy" type (adopted three) -- love just about every minute of it -- but I laughed my a** off when I read this. I'm just glad I wasn't drinking coffee at the time or I would need a new keyboard right now.

I'll be 44 in February and have no desire for kids. I certainly will not be changing my mind. At my age starting would not be an option anyhow unless I want a 5 headed baby.

Let's face it, parenthood is not for everyone. I'm just VERY glad when someone who knows it's not for them doesn't have kids anyway because it's the thing to do. I know too many kids whose parents don't really want to raise them, and it shows. Good for you for knowing what you really don't want to do.

I spent a lot of time in NC - in a small town where people don't like yankees none the less - and yes I did run into the occasional insult - but mostly - people were polite and willing to help with anything you may need.
I also work for a company with centers all across the country and the only time I have ever gotten "attitude" is with people up here. But I accept it, and am probably guilty of it myself at times - but things are different down south. People teach their children manners - when your in a store and someone accidentally brushes accross you they say "excuse me" - and yes this does also happen here in NJ - but it is not expected. Up here if someone says "excuse me" in a situation like that we end up thinking - hmmmm...that was nice. Why should we think that way. We should be in the habit of behaving politely constantly. Thats just my opinion, and it would be one of the things I look forward to if I move.

God, why do people whine so much about the cost of living in NJ when they make 6 figure incomes? Honestly I think it's just a case of keeping up with ye olde Joneses. Yes, NJ expensive, but NJ has one of the best job markets in the US with the highest salaries when you consider NYC is part of the North NJ picture.
NJ is annoying and congested, the weather is ****ty, and if you aren't into the urban life or in a big NJ industry like bio engineering, then it's true ... there's probably no reason to live here. But it's one of the easiest places to find work with a high salary, so you sacrifice that when you leave.

NJ is not the only place with good paying jobs. So many generalizations here!! The obsession with statistics is a waste of time. There is much more to consider and lots of people will whine these days.

A six figure income doesn't go very far here...the reason people make more money here (generally) is because the cost of living is so much higher. My company is trying to get people to relocate and we cannot find enough qualified people that will move to NJ (even for much higher salaries)...no one wants to come here when they find out how much it costs to live.

Why don't you suggest that they do what thousands of others are doing in moving just across the Delaware River to NEPA with a much lower cost-of-living while commuting to work in NJ? I know many, many folks who do this---some of whom commute all the way from the Scranton area now (and many more will do so once the Scranton-Hoboken commuter rail line is completed).
I've always been shocked by folks on here who tell me angrily "Hopatcong/Netcong is too far to commute; you know nothing", yet tens of thousands of others willingly commute from MUCH further locations and do far less whining. If you want the benefits of NJ career opportunities with an affordable cost-of-living, then suck it up and move to a place with a decent cost-of-living that is still within commutable range. People from as far away as Scranton's southern suburbs do it (Tobyhanna comes to mind), so why can't others?
