As PPs have said, you have to get temporary "no parking" signs posted in front of your building for that day. You pay a fee but it's not much--maybe $15-$30? Definitely pay for a larger window than you think you need because you need to arrive early and check that there aren't cars parked there. When we moved, we had the temporary signs put up (the city does this), but drove by before the moving truck was packed and saw that people were parked there. We called City hall and they sent out someone to start ticketing, which made people leave ASAP. We went to City Hall in person, but maybe these days you can call or do it online.
