I'm an 18 y/o staying with a friend in Piscataway while looking for a job. I need to live in a walkable area, as I don't have a car. I know New Brunswick would be the obvious choice, but I can't get a job there now as it seems like there's no way to walk there from where my friends' house is.

Is Edison nice? I've been to a neighborhood there before, and it turned me off as it's basically a mini India.

Edison, Iselin, and especially south brunswick. Plus route 1 is terrible traffic.

So? What is wrong with having mini India? These areas are very much diverse with Chinese Indians and whites in majority and Spanish and blacks minority making up the demographic.

(Sorry I don't know how to format on this site)

I would need to have a car to travel from here to South Brunswick, and Iselin is just too far. Right now I'm in southern piscataway.

Also: I know NJ in general is very diverse- I grew up here, maybe 30% of my school was made up of minority groups. But the part of Edison I used to frequent was maybe 90-95% made up of an Indian community, and I'm not interested in Indian culture.

I am not sure I understand your question....

On one side, the title of your post is "Best town for young person to live in in middle-NJ?" - So looks like you want to ask where you can live.

Then, in your post, you say "but I can't get a job there now as it seems like there's no way to walk there from where my friends' house is.", so it seems like you are like of anchored to your friends house and can look for a job within walking distance from that house. In which case, the idea of this thread is moot.

Chinese Indians?
I was not aware of that ethnic group.

+1

The OP needs to clarify whether he is looking to move away from his current residence...or not...and whether he will have a car when (or if) he decides to move from his friend's house.
