Edit: This leads me to ask. To go to the city from Wesmont would it be better/easier to transfer at Secaucus for Penn Station or take PATH at Hoboken? I know it can depend on where you're going but is there a general rule? This is mostly for the weekends by the way.
Nice, thanks for the link! On the weekends, the trains don't run that frequently. You should also consider the 163/164 bus to/from PABT or a $20 Uber to/from Secaucus Jxn.

Hi All,

We recently saw the houses in Liberty Sq @ Westmont and totally liked the Lancaster/Manchester and the area of Wood-Ridge in general. The fact that timetable is up on NJtransit site adds to our confidence of buying here

The only caveat is each and every small thing we ask about in model houses is an upgrade, adding to the cost of the house!! Any idea when is the retail shopping/ day care etc. everyone talks about is planning to come up?

Hope no one from Westmont will start screaming on their phone in the quiet car... Here is the policy for your information:

Many customers enjoy the comfort of traveling in subdued environments provided within Quiet Commute cars. As their popularity continues to grow with customers, we are increasing their availability throughout our rail system and will continue to make enhancements based on customer and employee feedback.

Quiet Commute Availability
Designated Quiet Commute cars are available on all trains arriving at or departing from terminal stations on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. based on the following:

  • Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex and Montclair-Boonton lines
    • First and last open cars on all trains
  • North Jersey Coast Line
    • First and last open cars on all trains except on the Bay Head shuttles, which use the first open car at the front of the train

Trains To/From Hoboken Terminal
  • Morris & Essex, Montclair-Boonton, Main/Bergen County, Port Jervis, Pascack Valley and North Jersey Coast lines
    • First open car traveling to Hoboken and last open car traveling from Hoboken

Trains To/From Philadelphia 30th Street Station
  • Atlantic City Line
    • First open car traveling to Philadelphia and last open car traveling to Atlantic City
What You Should Know
Quiet Commute cars offer seating on a first-come, first-served basis. While traveling in these cars, please observe the following guidelines:

I saw the press release for the Wesmont opening but it didn't mention any ceremony. Is anything special going to happen on the 15th or will it just suddenly go from closed to open?

Is NJT concerned at all about confusion with the Westmont station in south Jersey on the Lindenwold line?

I don't think they care since I'd think it's hard for them to be unaware of that station's existence.

I guess they have a reason for the name but don't know that story. I imagine they wanted Westmont and then when they realized the PATCO station existed they dropped the 't' in West.

I'd think the risk is small though and kind of like how Woodbridge and Wood-Ridge might sound the same (and that there's a Ridgewood too)...why are things so unoriginally named in NJ?! On the plus side:

1. They're far apart (as Woodbridge and Wood-Ridge is)
2. They're on different lines with each station being exclusively run by different services and I'd say it's hard to confuse PATCO for NJT.
3. Don't forget that missing 't'

Anyone know the story behind the naming or have other considerations on the confusion?

EDIT: Just checked. The NJT and PATCO lines are all separate down there as well. They (PATCO and Atlantic City Line) share a right of way immediately East of Westmont until Lindenwold but are separate tracks. Not sure how much good this will do for the average person though.

FYI from Avalon

Residents,

We wanted to provide several important updates at the community regarding Wesmont Station and our own parking. We are thrilled to announce that NJ Transit’s Wesmont Station is finally open! You can find the schedule for our station in the link below or visit New Jersey Transit - Home and plan your trip there. To get to the train station, you can cross through the fence on Avalon Drive near Building 4, make a left and follow the roadway to the station. We have also been informed that due to the opening of the station, the Borough of Wood-Ridge has passed an ordinance that limits parking to 3 hours between 9:00 AM – 9:00 AM in the public spaces on Wesmont Drive, Eisenhower Lane and Avalon Drive. We are working to get further clarification to see how this affects us since we are residents of these streets. If you have any special circumstances regarding these spaces during the day, please let us know and we’ll do our best to advise you.

We are also happy to announce that we have procured a new towing vendor – Nutchie’s Towing located in Lodi. We wanted to take this time to reiterate our parking policies and announce some changes as well.

- We currently have 2 signed leases for retail at the community. One store is taking over the former Milk and Honey Space; the other is for a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins. We don’t have any opening dates yet, however we need to ensure we have adequate spaces for retail as advised by the Borough. Effective Monday, May 23rd, all Building 3 residents with deck parking must park in the parking garage within the building. The Rosie Square parking lot is solely for overnight visitor parking, overflow parking for buildings 4, 5 and 6, and future retail parking. The Rosie Square allowable parking will be indicated by red parking tags and guest passes; any vehicles with blue tags will be subject to towing at owner’s expense.
- Because of the opening of the station, we want to ensure everyone parking in the community is authorized as a resident or guest. Effective Monday, May 23rd, all guest vehicles parked in Rosie Square will also need guest passes at any time during the day/night, not only for overnight parking.
- Your blue tag must be fully visible; this means the entire tag including all printed letters/numbers. We recommend hanging the tags behind your rearview mirror or securing them to your dashboard with 3M Command Strips if the tags do not fit your mirror.
- Please ensure you are only parked in one space. Parking in multiple spaces or crooked in the corner spaces may also be subject to towing at owner’s expense.
- If you have a private garage, please ensure it is parked in the private garage at all times and not in Rosie Square or behind any of the buildings. Vehicles with blue parking tags for private garages will be towed from these spaces at owner’s expense.

We apologize for the length of this email, however we wanted to be as detailed as possible for these important announcements. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the leasing office. We appreciate your cooperation.

Default Wesmont Parking Lot Updates?

It looks like the deadline to submit bids for the Wesmont Station parking lot work has been updated repeated:

April 20, 2016 (Original)
May 3, 2016 (Updated on 4/14/2016)
May 19, 2016 (Updated on 4/27/2016)
Postponed Indefinitely (Updated on 5/17/2016)
June 2, 2016 (Updated on 5/19/2016)
June 23, 2016 (Updated on 5/26/2016)

You have to wonder if it'll ever get awarded (and built)...

Is nobody bidding for the work??

Also it seems that the work is scheduled to take 120 days after the start of work is ordered (not the award date) so earliest possible completion as of today would be around November/December (maybe with early 2017 as likely)?

Edit: By the way, is the temporary permit parking enforced/applicable during the weekend?

I bet the various new restaurants in Teterboro's Restaurant Row will open before the new WS NJT parking lot. :P But hey, at least fares are not going to increase for about another year or so!

WRT parking, I don't think so. The Wood-Ridge train station parking lot is free on the weekends.
