All the communications satellites are in a geosynchronous orbit at around 22,300 miles above the equator because at that point in space they spin the same speed as the earth so on the ground you dont have to move your dish to track them. Every 2 degrees along that belt in space there is another satellite or "bird" as we call them.

What that means is you need to see the sky 22,300 miles above the equator from where you are. From around here NJ its a certain angle south or south west for most of the birds.

You can find programs online where you plug in your address or coordinated and it will show you the angle and direction to the bird.

If you are in South America or south of the equator you need to look north. If you are down by the equator its straight up, luckily those people dont get much snow to cover the dish.

Wondering if the football games are on regular TV you just put up your own antenna and dont pay NUFFIN. Everyone has a right to a put up a TV antenna even in apts or condos, etc.

Where I live - smack dab in the middle of Mercer - there isn't much going on over the air. My son got one of those antennas and nothing was happenin'. Most of the good college and pro games are on over the air, but too many of them are on ESPN or the NFL network.

However, with football season coming up I figured I should get TV again. And then I notice that DirecTV is blanketing my home, the Internet and even my kids' PS4 with ads, and they're hyping the NFL package. So I'm like, yeah, why don't I do that? The rate, even with the extra football games, is lower than what I was paying Comcast. So I go online and sign up and am told I have to wait a week for installation. Finally they show up yesterday - late - take one look around and tell me they can't install the dish. Why? Well, where I want to install, behind my house, faces the wrong direction, and the dish would not be able to get the satellite signal. In front of the house there's a big tree, so again, no signal. And when they talked about putting the damn thing on the roof, I had to call the homeowners' association, which told me that we are not allowed to have dishes on our roof. So, bottom line, no Directv or any other satellites for me. What was that about this area being a hotbed for high technology?

FIOS? Not available where I live. Verizon is so damn second-rate. And since I can't do without football on TV, I am stuck with going back to Comcast. What's that old saying about the Devil you know?
Might want to do some research. From my understanding the HOA has to allow you to install the dish.

Looks like no roof install allowed.

you still need an internet connection for Netflix and Hulu. That means going with comcast, verizon, time warner, or dish(do they provide internet?)
