I got a parking ticket last month in palisade park, NJ, one thing I found that the plate number is wrong, and I came to the municipal building today try to contest it. I told the people about my case, the guy just asked my registration, and input my car plate number into the system right way, fixed the error cop made before.
well , I felt kinda stupid at this point, my friend told me I can just throw the ticket away. I am honest guy, I don't want to do this.
Before parking there i did check the sign on the road, it says 2 hours parking from x am to x pm, the x is missing, then I thought it maybe the same as where I live(fort lee, no need pay after 6pm), after this ticket, I checked the sign on the road two blocks away I realized the second x is 9PM. It's different from fort lee.
I took all the pictures and evident to support that the sign is not clear. and confusing people.
anyone know if any new jersey law I can cite to support this case? I will use it in the court.

Your friend is right, but his time sequence is wrong.
You could have thrown the ticket away before you helpfully provided the correct license plate number to the folks at the Violations Bureau.
Now that they have the correct identifying information for your car, you can't throw the ticket away--unless you want to get into some deep doo-doo.
Since you took photos of the sign with the missing info, you might want to go to court to contest the ticket, using your photos as evidence, but--do yourself a favor and don't try "It's different in Fort Lee" as a defense--unless you want to provide some laughs for the court personnel. If the time factor is missing from the sign in question, you just might win. On the other hand, if you lose, then you will have to pay court costs in addition to the parking fine.
How much is the fine? Is it worth your time & effort to go to court & fight it?
Exactly!
When you consider the inconvenience--and possibly a loss of wages for taking time off from work in order to go to court--I don't think that the typical parking ticket fine is high enough to warrant fighting it. And, then if you also have to pay court costs...
the fine only $30, if I lost the case, I need to pay $63, I don't really care those small money in this case, I want them to make the sign clear to people. Paliside park only couple miles from where I live(fort lee). I have lot time to deal with this case, and also it's my first ticket in NJ since I move to here from 2009. that's why I want to take it seriously.
anyone know any law or rule I can cite to defend myself?
Thank for your reply above..
the case here is not about money, it's about helping people to avoid it.

Well...you don't want to defend "them".
You want to defend yourself.
As I see it, the only way to (possibly) win is on the basis of unclear/improper signage.
Take those photos with you when you go to court, and you just might win.

If you're concerned about points or any impact on license or insurance, a parking ticket will not have any impact.
It won't make a difference. Palisades Park will not change the signs or its laws because you fought it in court. Pal Park is the worse when it comes to parking tickets. They want their money.
