I just saw in the NY News Channel One, that there are 280 people being held in the Newark, NJ, Airport because one passenger is sick, and had been in Africa recently. They are suspecting the Ebola Virus........this is frightening, especially if there is no cure for Ebola, as yet.

TB is also a highly contagious airborne disease. You could get TB by sitting next to someone on an airplane and never physically touching them. TB hasn't been a leading cause of death in the U.S. since the late 19th/early 20th century. I'm fairly certain that medical science has advanced a bit since then Maybe Crackpot flowers is referring to the influenza pandemic of 1918? Still not an apples to apples comparison by any means since again, influenza is an airborne disease.

I've known exactly two people who have had tuberculosis. They are both still alive.

oh come on, everyone goes through customs. if the flights arent direct, you can block the people at customs. you can threaten to block flights from countries that dont institute similar bans.

I will again bring up post-9/11 - did the US not stop all flights to and from the country for days? On 9/11 all flights in the air were systematically brought down and no one flew in or out of the US until a day or two later. It's possible to ground all flights in a country. Only about 150 people from the affected countries fly to the US a day, that is not a lot and not hard to control. It's not as if this is a prosperous, wealthy important region we're talking about here - if we need to shut down those countries except for medical supplies/people for some time, it can be done.
