I live close to the border of NY, Rockland County, and I have to say that two of the best pizza places are there, The Mountain House (thin-crust) and Nanuet Hotel's restaurant has a great pan pizza). But there are tons of good pizza places all over, those are just two of my favorites. Mountain House just opened a new location in Emerson.

They have baco-potato, cheesesteak, bbq chicken or steak,

They have all these gourmet topping schemes. They are all really good, and there is never a line because it is in a sleepy town.

I have to agree with you about going to the city. I grew up in the city and while I can find good pizza here in N.J., to me nothing can compare with John's Pizzeria of Bleecker Street or Lombardi's on Spring Street (of course any real New Yorker will say the best pizzeria in the five boroughs is one from their neighborhood ). There used to be a great pizzeria on Father Demo Square (Golden Pizzeria) that also had excellent pizza. Sadly it's been gone for years.

I like my own pizza pretty well these days, but can't really see the market for more pizza places in NJ. I would say it most closely resembles a NY style pizza, with just flour, water, sea salt and a touch of yeast. Cooked in about 5 minutes as hot as my oven will go. What I can't stand is a NY style slice that is dry and crunchy that has been cooked for like 15 minutes.

A Mano in Ridgewood is cooked in wood fired ovens brought over from Italy

I like "John's Boy" in Glen Rock. Great chewy crust.

Lenny's in Ridgewood isn't even owned by Lenny, and Bagelicious isn't owned by Jack anymore

Not to say there isn't good pizza in NY but great pizza exists everywhere and it has nothing to do with the water.

Pizza is only as Good as the Water they use for the Dough. Have You ever tasted Pizza in Florida? I would rather Drink a Glass of Raritan River than Eat Pizza here! That's why i am getting very excited about moving back home to NJ!

Browns Mills.. we have a few good pizza places

1) Family Pizza
2) Alba Pizza - by Deborah Heart Hospital
3) Riccardo's.. with the original owner who recently took it back over

When I lived in Union / Somerset county we used to have really good pizza. I was back in Roselle 2 years ago, the place on Chestnut & 2nd ave was still good.

Watchung, Marino's pizza was always good. I stopped working in Watchung around 1992 and every time I went back up there and had their pizza it was still the best in the area.

Freehold - hubby loves Federici’s
