Hoboken NJ has the best selection of pizzerias. It has a Grimaldi's.
Giovannis Sicilian is incredible. Fillipos on first is tremendous after a night of boozing.

I grew up in Brooklyn and lived there until I was 27. I've lived in NJ for the last decade.

First off, there is no pizza place in NJ even comparable to NYC (all five boros). None. It's just not even close. I've looked, trust me. I've tried many. Most stink -- and stink badly. It's really disappointing. It's like when my mother or sister in Florida say they found a great pizza place there, and then I try it when I visit, and it's like "ugh, have you lost your sense of taste??"

I've lived in Hoboken, JC and Bayonne. I've tried many places in Hudson, Essex and some surrounding counties. Most are awful. JC especially, which is kind of shocking.

The best I've found in 10 years of NJ living is Giovanni's on Bway in Bayonne. It's really very good -- crisp crust, great sauce, cheese is great. Better if you buy by the slice in person then get a pie delivered, though.

Vinnie's in Bayonne and JC is also pretty good.

Hoboken is real disappointing. I saw Benny Tudino's listed, and I think those people should try it again! LOL. Hoboken Pizza by the PATH is probably the best.

Hoboken Pizza by the PATH has a lot got going for it. First, location. And second, oh yeah location. Other than that, it's still pretty good, LOL. Not the best NJ has to offer, but I wouldn't complain.

Spirito's in Elizabeth has had a reputation for their pizza for decades. My memory goes back to the '60's. And my parents' generation in their youth was also well-acquainted with Spirito's.

Benny Tundinos has super large slices but the quality is poor.
There is a Grimaldis in Hoboken so when you want to compare to the five boros that has to be included.

I haven't gotten a chance to try Star Tavern, but I've heard it's good from a few different people.

Are you near Venice? My dad lives in Venice and there is really good pizza in Venice at a place called Fratellis on Rt 41. Very good. I think they are originally from NY or CT. My husband and I always go a few times when we are down there.

If you are ever in the area-check it out.
