As I figured most people will try and talk you out of driving. You could def try the train, I would suggest trying both to get a feel of things and make a decision then. It's not a long distance and if you're outside of rush hour that can make a big difference.

Winter weather is coming soon, don't forget the weather factor.
Actually the train might work for you since its only 2 seats and about 2 hours and you switch from NJT to LIRR right at Penn Station in Manhattan. Longish ride but you can get some work done or Zzzz's in possibly.
Driving, I would opt for going thru downtown as going over the GeeDub Bridge adds over 16 more miles each way and an additional toll.
If this link translates, it's pretty much the shortest drive and you can click on the train logo for transit info:
Depending on where in NJ your wife's job is, it may make more sense for you to look in Westchester County, NY. That would kind of be the halfway point between NJ and Queens.

Yeah that depends a lot were the other job is, but then 2 people have a long miserable commute, both probably have to drive over bridges and tolls and they're stuck living in NY? Not my cup of tea
Yeah, one person needs to commute while the other one takes care of kids and daycare and so forth.
So, the commuter will be me.
Good choice. You don't want both parents working far from home.
