Hi. My brother is looking at possibly renting at the address below. Is this a good location in JC? Is it relatively safe? I am only familiar with the waterfront, and am a bit skeptical about living in jersey city as a whole. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not the worst part of JC, but not great either. Brother probably won't have to worry much about getting mugged, but there are drug pushers on the corner, car might get broken into, and typical urban QOL issues (loud car stereos, garbage and litter, etc).

It's okay. It looks worse than it is. The dangerous parts of Jersey City are further south (south of Communipaw Avenue). That location is near Journal Square, which is the safest area of Jersey City outside of downtown.

That apartment looks pretty nice from the pictures, and $1700 for a 2BR is a good deal. I would suggest driving around there during the day and late at night to get a feel for what the neighborhood is like. It looks like a bit of a long walk to the JSQ Path station so you may want to try walking that to see how long it takes and get a feel for your surroundings.

ok thanks everyone. it sounds like it is not the best location in JC, but far from the worst too. he can't seem to afford anything further east closer to the water. i guess this is not a bad choice overall.

That part of Baldwin isn't too bad and is very conveniently located if you get the car parking. I would not venture out at night for a run or leave my wallet on the front seat though. There were actually some really nice houses around that area. My sister's friend grew up there.

my only concern is that there are a lot of weird backroads there that either lead to a costco shop (something more local though) or worse the projects. So just be aware. But I lived around those projects for years, and honestly there is no problem. A lot of Puerto Ricans, good people just trying to make it. Would walk to Pathmark through the projects off Montgoomery (not the multistories, the family houses) and honestly never felt in danger.

There are no Costco warehouse stores in Jersey City, or anywhere in Hudson County for that matter.

It's not Costco...it is like a more local wholesaler...you HAVE to own a business to be a member. It is behind the older wing of the Medical Center. Forget what it's called.
