Tolling authorities, just like normal highway departments will usually pay out for your claim if it is documented and reported. I have had Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington state pay my damage claims.

Contact the authority in question and ask them for forms/information on how to process your claim. You do not have to "sue."

If it was my car I would also inspect the air conditioning condensor which usually id directly behind and next to the radiator.

Usually it might escape damage but if you go through all the troubles of fixing one, you want to be sure the other is okay.

This situation is no different than if you were driving down the street and ran over a nail that gave you a flat tire. The Turnpike is not paying for the damage.
Nope, if you run it over, it's generally covered as collision. Comp covers wind damage, animal hits, or if something falls on your car, vandalizm/thefts.

You cannot sue NJ, and your insurance carrier can not go after them for you. You have to go through your own first party coverage & they would cover the deductible. If you don't have first party coverage, they will typically cover the damage, but usually it's potholes, not debris in the roadway (unless you can somehow argue the state failed to keep the roadway clear).

Nope. Ran over a metal pipe on the GWB that punctured the gas tank. The police were really helpful and the tow truck was great, but in the end it sucked to be me.

Did you stop & document the incident, via cellphone video or photos? Contact the NJTP or NJSP & ask for info about filing a report or claim?
