The Schools in the Freehold Regional School District are excellent and you have the option of the train in Matawan or 2 bus lines to NYC.
There is quite a bit he can get there for under $500,000 as the prices are dropping.

Dude, be a man, grow a pair and tell your wife to get off her a$$ and waltz into her $100K job that she should be grateful to have in this economy. Put the kid(s) in daycare and with a $240K income you can live wherever the hell you want. I'm 30, don't make $100K and own a townhouse in Westfield. So don't tell me you can't do it with your income (combined or single). C'mon, bro, we should all be lucky to have your "problems."

LOL...
I have similar sentiments about this post.
I would bet that most of the families in my 5 block radius..don't make much more than 140k..single or combined.

If you haven't already, try Maplewood/South Orange. It is a great community, very affordable, good schools. Easy to commute into the city, right on the Midtown Direct.

140,000 thousand is enough to live in a great area. I've seen a couple of people on city-data in the same boat. They have good paying jobs but have trouble finding a home that makes them happy. I think the key is to prioritize and sacrifice something.
Here are two scenarios:
A couple works hard in order to own a cape cod in a great town like Livingston or Glen Rock. The schools are good, so the kids go to public. High taxes/mortgage payments prevent the couple from owning two BMW's, so dad has a Honda and mom leases an entry-level Benz. They shop for good clothes at outlet centers in Pennsylvania or even settle with clothes from Target.
Another couple owns a 4-bedroom home in a lower middle class neighborhood like Lodi or maybe even a large Victorian in the historic section of Newark. The kids go to private school and dad owns a Lexus (he refuses to drive a Ford ). Mom has a closet full of high-end shoes and bags. They invest in a quality alarm system for the house.
Both of these families sacrificed something according to what was important to them. In NJ, it's impossible to have it "all" unless your rich or severely in debt.

Awsome response. Im sick of seeing these princess wives "stay at home". Go out and get a job and contribute. The kids will be fine in daycare. They actually enjoy it and become more social. Having kids is an excuse to most women to get out of going to work everyday.
