There's no actual proof of anything claimed in the piece. Did you notice that? All that happened is this guy is walking around school and is rumored to be a multi-millionaire. When asked directly, the guy doesn't even want to say how much money he has, but "alludes" to it. He has an apartment that he supposedly rents "even though he can't live there yet" and a car that he owns "which he's not allowed to drive." Uh, yeah, OK. And does he also own the Brooklyn Bridge and can I buy it from him?
Furthermore, let's assume this is totally 100% true. Nowhere mentioned is the background of his family, i.e., if they're rich. Because it's relatively easy to make a few million dollars if you start out with millions of dollars. Pretty much anyone can do it. The story attempts to imply that he started out with a $20 bill and turned it into $87 million. In fact, if you read the story, at the end of it you should be thinking to yourself that you just wasted five minutes of your life.
The only thing the article is being used for is "click-bait." The New York Magazine ran out of things to write about, so it ran with this meaningless piece. And now it's "viral" because it's being posted on multiple news aggregate websites, as well as by individuals such as yourself.
I did say the story was "incredible", which technically means "impossible to believe" haha. A shame too, not that NY Mag is the most reputable on the street, but it's generally well-regarded. Crazy how the author is headed to Bloomberg's investigative unit!

I think that headline will change to was headed to Bloomberg investigative unit.
The media today has zero concern over accuracy. As long as it stirs up controversy, they are happy.
As long as it gets CLICK$$$$, they are happy.
