nj home
--go to nj dept of education website and under "school report card" you can look up any town for a rating on different topics of interest for individual schools. --tollbrothers.com has many new homes listed in New Jersey.

unfortunately, you won't get much of a house with a good school district for $450K. Bergen and Hudson counties are too expensive. Check out Middlesex County (under 1 hour commute from Woodbridge, Edison, South Amboy, Sayreville, Metuchen). You can also try Monmouth County, which is a bit further south, but may have better schools, more space and also has access to the Jersey shore.
Best of luck!

400 to 450 is really low in NJ, for anywhere that is commutable to NYC AND with a decent school system. You'll definitely want to try Middlesex or Mercer, but even there you're looking at a townhouse or a very small house. Plainsboro, South Brunswick perhaps. But it won't be a 45 min commute, at least an hour, probably more door-to-door.
