I am having the hardest time gathering information and obtaining a permit.
I currently reside in Jersey City, NJ. The property is 25' x 100' there is a common driveway that is used between by neighbor and I. I want a garage built in my backyard. The garage will be 18' x 20' with a 16' door.
It will be built using 2x4 wood blocks and will have a roof with shingles. The city is saying it has to be 7.5' away from the property line of the house in front of us. If that's the case I will have hardly any room to pull the cars in or out! Now some guy in the Zoning dept. over the phone is telling me it has to be built of masonary not of wood which is significantly more $! Help people how do I go about getting a stupid permit and getting this built and over with so my cars can stop being vandalized.
Is there actually a house on this 25' wide lot? If so, is it only 12' wide or something? How do you plan to get past the house with an 8-10' driveway to get to your new garage?
I don't think I'll get getting a garage anymore just won't park on the streets in JC. Will have to pay for a parking lot.
