I received a red light ticket in the mail a few weeks ago from newark nj, it is for turning right on a red light. This happened a few weeks before they canceled the red light program.

I had read some articles from other cities where they said you don't have to pay the red light tickets, such as LA (ex: Yes, You Can Still Ignore That Red-Light Camera Ticket | The Informer | Los Angeles | Los Angeles News and Events | LA Weekly)

Would I get a warrant issues if I don't pay it, even though this law is no longer enforced? Or should i try to fight it in court? Does anyone know how much additional I would have to pay if I plead not guilty and then end up losing in court? Ticket is 85$

I hate those tickets and the whole idea but I think you are stuck paying it because it was issued while the program was still active. I got one that did not show any violation but the court basically talked me out of contesting it and I did not want to waste my time.

If you have free time and want to fight it I suggest maybe researching and make sure if you go to court and lose they don't turn it into a points violation, although they are not claiming you are driving, but the problem I see is if you go in and testify you are incriminating yourself. that is one of the reasons, of MANY, I'm glad this thievery is shutdown now.

They just want to rob your money and it doesn't work on the premise of don't break any laws, that doesn't matter.

I would suggest to pay it since the violation was while the law was still in effect.

Any tickets issued up until the program expired still have to be paid. It's basically impossible to fight in court.

I don't know what happens if you don't pay, but I doubt NJ would just ignore it.
