Dean St., West orange, NJ 07052
Does anybody know anything about this area in West Orange. I'm consisdering renting the 1st floor of a 2 family house on Dean Street in West Orange. I did trying calling the police dept, but they told me I would have to mail my request in writing to them. I'm afraid I might not hear back from them before I have to make a decision.
Any help would be appreciated.

I just did a Mapquest of Dean Street and it looks like it might be a little too close for comfort sitting next to Orange.

dean street
I recently moved near there and have driven by this address a lot on the way to 280. It looks okay crime-wise to me -- houses kept up, no vacants, no street corner activity. This is sort of on the cusp of being between an industrial and residential neighborhood. Good location for getting to the highways, NJ transit, and shopping.
As a first-floor renter, I'd be more concerned with meeting and having a relationship with the upper floor.
Good luck.

My grandma used to live down the street from that address. It its really considered Orange but has a WO zip code. There is plenty of crime there not as bad as EO but I would consider another area. Plus during the day up the street you will see close to 100 people standing there to get work.

The Valley Road area of Orange/West Orange is pretty bad, and there is a good number of abandoned and run down factories and other buildings (like the huge one on Central Ave). The area is not as bad as it once was, but like I said, the neighborhood still has its share of run-down crap, and the fact that your street is right on the Orange border sure doesn't help. I am sure you could find better in the Essex County area. Also, once you go up the hill in West Orange, the neighborhood gets a lot better.
