I'm looking at moving to N. Jersey from Princeton to shorten my commute a bit.
I was wondering what the weekday parking situation is like for commuters out of South Orange, Maplewood, Bloomfield, Lyndhurst, Kingsland, and/or Rutherford train stations. I know that South Orange has a jitney to drop commuters at the train station, but I'm curious how parking is nonetheless.
Anyone have knowledge of the daily and/or permit parking situations at any of these stations? Is there daily availability or does it fill up quickly/early? Thanks for your help!
I can comment on Lyndhurst and Kingsland. Kingsland has a tiny lot that is always full. Lyndhurst has 2 lots, lot 1 is always full, lot 2 has tons of spots. I haven't used that station in a couple years but there used to be spots available for the 8:29am train into NYC and it was free. It's a little bit of a walk to the station from the lot.
South Orange usually has parking after 9:30 when unused monthly spaces become available (though this often does fill up). The daily spaces fill up for the first train at zero-dark-thirty, or so I've heard (you won't catch me up at that hour)
Rutherford has 3 lots that you use for a monthly $50.
