I certainly think these people have been and will be through more than enough pain and loss and don't wish them anything negative. Their lives are forever changed by this.
Because you have told us--repeatedly--in other threads that you don't believe the police should be involved in enforcement of traffic laws such as red light violations and speeding, I just have to ask...

Do you believe that the police should be involved when somebody is driving while intoxicated?

If they are endangering the public then okay.

I myself got caught many decades ago and I am not any cop certainly but was just advised to give them the keys and pickup my keys the next day at the PD and they gave me a ride to a friends house.

And I don't have any LEO relatives either, just was truthful and didn't give them any hard time.

I don't drink much nor often anymore, that was ages ago. Everybody has stories.

Anyway this one, the guy may never stand up and walk again and no matter what he has to live with feeling responsible for his friends deaths the rest of his life. That is more than enough.

Maybe I can see that attitude - MAYBE - for a first time offender, but Abad drove drunk at least twice before (he was caught twice, probably made it home more times with his record, important distinction to remember) and still didn't learn his lesson. These types of situations usually only escalate. Keep driving drunk, eventually you will hurt someone or yourself. It is not excusable. I don't care how injured he is, he cannot get away with this, especially his third time being caught.

With sh#thead repeat offenders like Abad, it is really like giving a drunk a loaded weapon. Instead of a big truck, that might've been a family leaving early in the morning on vacation. Maybe 4 or 5 more people dead. I have zero sympathy for this dirtbag. He should've died and not the others.

Yup. Usually it's the scumbag drunk driver who lives unscathed, sadly.

Somebody could likely have prevented things from getting to the point of fatalities, but instead Abad continued to drive a Linden police vehicle, and apparently suffered no real consequences for his earlier alcohol-related transgressions. I think that, before this is over and done with, somebody in Roselle's court system may wind up in serious legal trouble for dismissing the charges against him.

If this latest factoid doesn't indicate that there was favoritism in the way that he was dealt with, then...

Agreed; they can be very hypocritical.
