Default Why should I stay in NJ?

Okay, the big question that's been eating me up for years. Why should I stay in NJ? I was born here and to tell you the truth I can't find the NJ I grew up in. I lived 34 years of my life in NJ and 80 percent of that in the Ventnor/Margate area. Growing up there was the best and I wish the place was as good, so I could raise my kids there.I now live in central NJ and though the schools are great the high school sucks. My taxes went from 2.02 to 3.67 in 5 years and I still pay the lowest in the state.I really don't care who is in the state house, they are all crooks, and just as bad through-out the country, so that's not an issue.I built my house myself and saved 125 dollars a sqft doing so. I work in aviation and have also served in the airforce for 12 years. I have been all over the country and world. This has always been home till I went to vermont. I now own a house on a lake in VT and just can't see staying here anylonger.I have three kids, ages 11, 8, and 7.What I am asking is why do you stay?
Thanks for listening to my boring problem.

I dunno- for a lot of the folks on here, it seems to have something to do with the availability of good pizza and bagels- maybe that's the reason you're staying????

my number reason to leave is the people moving in FROM new york city.
as for pizza, my father makes his from scratch, better then anyone around(IMHO)
The job will not change just the cost of living.
family is already moving all around just me and my father left.

BWAAAHAHAHAHAAA! For some, it really seems to be the main reason. There are those, who left NJ and are going back for exactly that same reason!

To the OP: if I had a house on a lake in VT, I'd have been outta there the same week I bought the house on the lake in VT! Your kids are at a resilient age, so now's the time. If you wait another year or two, it may be too late for your oldest, IMO.
As I've stated before, on another thread, write down all the pros and cons...the answer will come to you.

As much as I love NJ, and hate to say this:

perhaps, if you're asking yourself why you need to stay in NJ, you shouldn't be staying. On the flipside, perhaps it's the emotional attachment you may have to NJ, being the place you grew up and all. Or maybe it's what you want your children to know, even if it has changed since you were younger.

Why do I stay..
-I stay because for as many rude, obnoxious people I have met, I have met 2 people who would do anything for you.
-I stay because I was able to get a good job, and in the chance that I lose it, I know that I will have plenty of places to look to get an equally good one.
-I stay because I love the beach, I love the mountains and I enjoy the various cities near by.
-I stay because I can get to 5 different malls within 25 minutes of where I live.
-I stay because although it’s expensive, if you are willing to commute a little, you can find a reasonably priced house; in a nice area (property taxes are still high, I’ll give you that).
-I stay because I have met people from all walks of life and from all parts of the world.
-I stay because I really enjoy going to the diner at 3am.
-I stay because I can eat out 7 nights a week, at 7 different places, all serving food from a different culture.
-I stay because if I want to take a spur of the moment trip to a casino I can go to AC, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods or a select other few.
-I stay because I got a pretty good education: K-12, college, and currently finishing up grade school. All in New Jersey.
-Most of all I stay because for me, this is home.
For those moving away, good luck to you, maybe one day I will move out and give somewhere else a try, but for now, I’m a Jersey guy.

and that will probably be the reason people in VT will move away from their homestate ("all these damn NJ'ers coming in")...if you leave an area because of an influx of people from somewhere else, remember this: you ARE those people to the natives of your new home.

after reading your posts though - it's pretty clear to me that you'll be happier somewhere else. best of luck to you!
