Can I get the QQ plates even if I intend to drive my 1984 300D daily? I would pay the appropriate insurance without mileage limitation. This question puzzled the insurance agent and I really never got a clear response.
I'm sure we have a lot of antique car enthusiasts on here. Thanks...

NJ restricts QQ plates to be used for education and car shows.

Therefore not for a daily driver. But I don't think a cop would pull you over, but get into an accident that might mean you have some explaining to do.

Clearly not worth the chance.

The 84 MB diesel is not exactly a collector car. The local cops may let you get by for a while but you can't get away with a one time registration fee while everbody else has to pay yearly.

Nice try though.

Camaro 69 is correct QQ is for shows and special events not for DD.

I had an antique Harley wit a "Q" plate. Motorcycles historic plates have just 1 Q, not 2 like cars, but the rules are the same. I didn't use it as a daily driver, but I did take it out for other purposes besides bike shows. I always figured if I ever got stopped, I would just tell the cop that I just did a tune up or I am bringing it to get repaired or something like that.

Default NO, you cannot lawfully use QQ plates on a daily driver.

I researched this idea 10 years ago when my 1980 Vette was a daily ride. The answer: NO, you cannot lawfully use QQ plates on a daily driver.

From the application: http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Vehicles/SP-121.pdf
Brief Description & Eligibility
Historic registration may be assigned to an antique vehicle which is at least twenty-five (25) years old. The vehicle must be owned as a collector’s item and used solely for exhibition or educational purposes. Please note that the vehicle cannot be altered from the manufacturer’s original design in any way and must be equipped for legal operation on New Jersey roadways.Historic registration must be renewed every three (3) years, but there will be no
fee for the renewal.

But the car doesn't need to be a 'collectible' make and model. Once it's 25 years old, age alone is the criteria.
