My lawyer's office has asked me to get the payoff info (a letter) for a HELOC. I am wondering what I am paying them for...is this normal? I can't understand why the lawyer fees are so high if they aren't doing the work.

Help!! Any info is appreciated...

This is normal. You just need to make a simple phone call to the lender, and they will send the info to your lawyer.

It's your loan.

How would the bank know that the person calling for information on "your" loan is your lawyer with your permission to obtain that info?
