I replaced the carpet at my last house when I moved. The temptation was to get it a box store. My realtor recommended a local carpet store. She sent enough customers their way that they gave discounts to everyone she sent. Our price was comparable to the box store for a little bit better quality. Ask around. We've found the realtors often have 'a guy' to do what you need at a reasonable cost.

Yes, after their sales figures plummeted and their stock price has cratered, it is likely that they are offering some very good deals. However, is it worth taking chances with your family's health in order to save a few bucks?

What is under the current carpet? Cement?

Scrub the cement, paint it and throw some rugs down

I wouldnt buy anything or replace anything yet. Take the time to look for better quality at a clearance price and then buy enough for when you are going to do the remodel. Any money spent now is going to be thrown away imo.

Say the wood costs you 1000 bucks. Thats 330-500 bucks basically thrown away becaue youre gonan rip it out

Cheap wood is just that. Cheap looks like hell and adds no value

Bamboo is the new discount flooring, they say. Durable and attractive, too.

Scratches so easily though. Looks great when first installed for sure.

Last year I had 2 upstairs bedrooms done with Bruce Plano Marsh from Home Depot...$3.37/square foot. It looks good, high gloss...not sure I'd put it in a heavily-trafficked area if I were staying, but it's fine for bedrooms.
