My son is in in kindergarten in NJ public school. An no, he is not sitting in a chair all day. They have recess when they go to play outside, lunch, gym periods, play times. The classroom has toys and books and a separate play area. Of course it is far from perfect but I would be weary of some crazy "project based" curriculum. Kids do not learn reading and arithmetic just by playing, experimenting, etc. If someone thinks that they do, they are being naive. Learning those skills requires practice and discipline...
There are so many Gulags in New Jersey.....why look for more?
