How about paterson?????
I was planning on moving to Linden but I didn't feel safe there looking around for an apartment. Would Paterson be a good city to live in or would I regret ever stepping foot in the city?

There are still some nice homes in the Totowa section and Eastside Park area, but I couldn't recommend renting an apartment anywhere in Paterson!

I agree with TheEmissary. If you consider Paterson, stick to the Totowa, Hillcrest, and Eastside Park neighborhoods. I've lived in Paterson all but three years of my life (grew up on the Eastside, then bought a home in the Eastside Park area), but I'm not even daring enough to live in the 1st Ward or 4th Ward.

I definitely wouldn't recommend moving into Paterson unless it's convinient to your job and even then there may be other locations that are nicer and closer. All the good people are trying to sell their homes and move out of Paterson. Even with the new "Center City" project, Paterson is just the pits. It's a very subsidized city so if you are looking for a handout then you would want to move here.

Well I want to work downtown so that why I need to live there or some place close. Would Clifton or Passaic be good choices and have better business.

where in linden were you looking? Because a very large section of linden is a lovely area to be in. Its the "sunnyside" section and it borders Clark and Cranford.
The commute via train to Penn Station is all of 40 minutes. Wall Street is a smidge less than an hour if I recall. and yes, I still live in linden. Its not a fabulous place compared to westfield, cranford and the surrounding areas, but Sunnyside is nice. trust me.
