I have lived in Mountainside for about 20 years now and raised my children. The taxes are reasonable, the schools great and the community friendly. The downside, no real town center, but we go to Westfield and or Summit which are both close by and beautiful. Transportation into the city is available by bus on 22 or train in Westfield or Summit and again, our taxes are lower than most surrounding towns. Our Newcomers club is a great way to get to know other members of the community, we have a town pool for the kids in the summer and after care right in the school as well. Another post had mentioned Rutherford, a really nice town as well, great town center, nice community with friendly people as well and conveniently located to the city. More city like, less rural than Mountainside and the taxes are higher but check it out and compare the two.
I have similar questions to Swilliamsny. We been searching different township. We narrow it down to Scotch Plains and Metuchen due to work. Did anyone has any suggestion, how their school system is like and if there might be issue with getting along since one of son has IEP.
