I'll be moving to Fair Lawn, NJ in about 4 weeks. First time home owner. Very excited about the town and my move.
What a great piece of advice by Ivan Putski. Just looked up NJ Urban Enterprise Zone. Thanks! It will definitely come in handy for those big purchases during the remodel.
And wow that the Swiss Pork Store is still there. Wonder if the same guys own it. I used to drink with them at the Dutch.
I wonder how it is surviving. It must be a redoubt of white non Jewish Americans. A lot of even secular Jews would hesitate to shop in the "Pork Store". Also this store is a few store fronts away from the Kosher supermarket. Very interesting juxtaposition.

They've both been there for years. I lived in FL in the early 80's. Married a blond, blue-eyed Irish boy from the St. Ann's crowd. The town was 65% Jewish at that time, leaving thousands of goyim to shop at non-Kosher markets. Besides, not all the Jews are Orthodox or even observant. I went to a number of interfaith weddings, usually officiated by the same priest/rabbi tag team.
The Russians were just starting to appear back then.

Good luck with your move. It's a good town to live in and a great location with access to everything.

Welcome to fair lawn. I moved here thus past summer though my brother's family has lived here for many many years.
Wanted to add to the list:
Amazing comic book (ahem, geek idea of heaven) store on river road.
There's a Froyo place at the promenade shopping center.
Sea and land diner (fair lawn Ave near the train station), nice place.
Great Park (trails, little Creek, playground etc) at saddle river road and fair lawn Ave.
