Oak Hill Academy, Lincroft
I am researching schools for k-8th grade. Does anyone have insight to Oak Hill Academy in Lincroft? Are the academics any better than the public schools in the area (i.e. Nut Swamp)?
Thanks!!

it's light years ahead of the public schools. seriously, it is a high performing school if you and your child are willing to make the effort. What that means if your child is an average kid who doesn't make school their top priority then going to Oak Hill would be a waste, you'd be better off in the publics

Very Happy with Nut Swamp School
Our family made the transition from private school to public school this year.... to Nut Swamp school and have been very pleased with our decision. Talk to the principal if you have concerns - she's very approachable.

Word is that kids who attend kindergarten at Oak Hill are, as 1st graders, behind their Navesick and Nut Swamp counterparts.
Nut Swamp School is among the top elementary schools in Central Jersey. I can't imagine paying for private school if Nut Swamp is your public option.

sorry, I just don't buy that, my son who went to oak hill was a at least a year if not more ahead of his peers. In addition a school like Oak Hill teaches skills beyond the a core curriculum, social and study skills that the publics either cannot or will not teach.
Nut swamp is probably a very good school but unless you've been able to experience other options then you really don't know.

We are fortunate to live in an area with a great public elementary school. After spending a few years at private school (which we really did like), and watching the price tag grow considerably each year, we decided that the dollars saved should be earmarked for college instead of being spent now for elementary school. We may consider returning for the middle and high school years but, for pre-school and early elementary grades it just didn't make sense. We are happy - and our kids transitioned well.

That's wonderful that you and your son had that experience. Have a great day!
To the OP, I would continue to talk to other families in the area regarding the schools. You'll get a better feel than you will through anecdotal experiences and opinions on a message board. I stand by what I said--if Nut Swamp were my public option, no way would I pay for private school. Good luck!

now this is rich, my views are anecdotal but your views are to be taken as fact?
I have children who went to Oak Hill, and my in laws children went to Nut swamp. I think I have a fairly good handle on the subject.
Either you are an NJEA sycophant or you had a bad experience with whatever private school your child attended, but the fact remains that children at Oak Hill are being educated at a higher level at Oak Hill.

Actually, I think any individual opinion, including my own, is generally anecdotal--confined to one's own experience. It is to the OP's benefit to consider a wide array of opinions. It wasn't an attack on you, and I wasn't suggesting that your opinion is less valid than anyone else's. You had a good experience with the school. As I said before, that's wonderful. And I'm not being snarky when I say that.
As for the rest of your statement, neither is the case. I don't have a dog in this race. The OP asked a question, and I posted what I have heard from sources I consider very reliable. {shrugs}
